Design & Systems Engineer
Sam Skwirut joined Point of Light in 2007 as the organization’s lead draftsman. Since then, Sam’s responsibilities have quickly multiplied to utilize his extensive knowledge, talents and interests.
Prior to joining Point of Light, Sam spent many years as a software engineer designing, developing, and testing proprietary CAD software and Internet related applications.
Sam has since led the development of a proprietary integrated software package for Point of Light to streamline the creation of the drawings and paperwork packages needed to accurately reflect and document the lighting design intent. This system is unique to Point of Light and allows for tight integration and seamless coordination of Point of Light’s release drawings and paperwork.
Sam has also been the primary lighting programmer for a number of Point of Light projects including both of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter projects at Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida as well as the projects in Osaka, Japan and Hollywood, California. He also has programmed the Transformers: The Ride projects at Universal Studios Singapore, Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida.
Sam was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs before relocating to Florida to attend the University of South Florida. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Master of Science degree in Management Information Systems.
In 2011, Sam relocated back to Chicago to open and run one of the branch offices of Point of Light located in Wheaton.
