Design Project Manager / CAD/BIM Designer
Chris Barker joined Point of Light as a part-time CAD/BIM Designer and Systems Programmer in March of 2013 while completing his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Lighting Design at DePaul University in Chicago. After graduating later that year, he joined the staff full time and was later promoted to Design Project Manager. Chris now heads up our newest studio in the West Loop area of Chicago.
In his work as Design Project Manager, Chris coordinates all aspects of our projects from initial project contact to final documentation completion/close out. In addition to his work as Design Project Manager, he also assists the POL staff with our CAD/BIM projects.
Before joining Point of Light, Chris held internships with Electronic Theatre Controls and manufacturers’ representative KSA Lighting. He was also a student staff master electrician at DePaul’s Merle Reskin Theatre, faculty assistant to the Head of Theatre Technology, and a founding board member of the student chapter of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology at DePaul. He is also an Associate Emerging Professional member of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES).
Chris is a freelance theatrical lighting designer and continues to design shows in Chicago and in his hometown of Lynchburg, Virginia. He enjoys volunteering with Travelers Aid Chicago at O’Hare International Airport.
